CURRENT AND PROPOSED ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES

NEW SYSTEMS (JUST COMPLETED, IN PROGRESS, OR
PREPARING TO START)
MicroStation - VDOT has completed the migration to V8
(2004 Edition). All workstations used in the development of Plans,
Specifications, and Estimates have successfully transitioned to V8 (MicroStation
08.05.02.55). VDOT is now moving towards
further evaluations of the XM product line.
GEOPAK - VDOT is currently upgrading to GEOPAK
2004 Edition (08.08.3. 24). VDOT uses the Road, Drainage, Site, and Survey
modules. We are presently evaluating GEOPAK XM . GEOPAK classes are ongoing all
year and are being held for Road 1 and II, Drainage 1 and II and Survey I and
II.
Carlson Data Collection Software - VDOT is currently using
the Carlson software and data collectors to collect survey data. We also are
using Carlson Software for some construction staking. VDOT is currently working
on procedures to accomplish all desired tasks in the area of stake out.
Falcon - VDOT
is currently using Falcon DMS (Document Management System (version 6.5), Falcon
SVP (Web Version – Search, View, Print), and Falcon Enterprise (Web Version –
Post, Check out/in). Falcon DMS is used to manage all cadd drawings and plan
file room documents. Falcon SVP is used to enable the Plan File Room to be
available via web for searching and printing. Falcon Enterprise is used to allow electronic plans
to be available to the contractors through the web and to allow the consultants
to post, check out, and in files via the firewall. VDOT has also set up other
environments for purpose of store all project correspondents and other project
related documents.
Trnsport - VDOT uses the estimating
system Trnsport. Trnsport will become a totally web based application. A group of employees from VDOT is currently
working closely with InfoTech and other users nationwide to develop and migrate
the Client Server version of Trnsport to a web version.
Aperture Card Scanning - VDOT is currently in the
process of scanning all of our aperture cards and adding them to our plan file
library. VDOT recently leased two Wicks and Wilson CS750 scanners and worked with TSAdvet
to create a process that will automatically store theses files in Falcon also
at the same time it will populate fields in the falcon database with import
information about the files.
DGNConform -
VDOT
is currently upgrading to CADconform Software version 6.4.10. CADconform is a software package that
will give users the ability to check their design files for adherence to VDOT
Cadd Standards for level, text height & width, text font, line style, and
line weight.
Electronic Digital Signature – VDOT
is currently looking at the use of Electronic Signatures for Signing and
Sealing engineering documents and plans.
