- The Commonwealth is currently engaged in a consolidation effort aimed at assisting state-owned computing functions to reach their full potential. Combining IT across the Commonwealth will strengthen buying power and produce advantages in negotiating IT contracts. Appropriate levels of security will also be instituted while improving both the quality and uniformity of services. In addition, the Commonwealth would expect to experience substantial cost savings, as have other states following the path to IT consolidation. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s IT functions were consolidated effective July 16th, 2006.

- Over the past year almost all development resources were dedicated to the interfaces for local KYTC application to connect to the new eMARS system. This development included connections for Trns*Port including SiteManager.

- Other development activities include: EATS, a system for supporting the efforts of our environmental group, and some smaller applications for Fleet Services, Program Management and Legal Services.

- The Geotechnical Branch in the KYTC has compiled over 6000 engineering reports for roadways, structures and landslides since 1973. These reports contain site maps, design drawings, core hole listings, and staff recommendations for the projects. To facilitate accessing these documents for conducting future studies, a Web-based system was designed to allow geotechnical staff to catalog the contents of historical reports in a database. An internet map service was created with custom features to assist staff in locating projects using geographic queries, storing project map footprints for geographic searching, and uploading and converting coordinate files associated with the projects. Over 2000 reports have been documented to date and are searchable from the web.

The ability to report information entered into multiple databases is a very important component of a reporting application. The Division of Program Management recognizes the need to extract database information, view it locally, save it as an alternative format, and print it out for hard copy review and dissemination. The Division of Program Management has developed the Project Managers ToolBox to assist all project stake-holders monitor and analyze highway project information. All information contained in the toolbox is dynamic in that, the information is retrieved from the production database, or a database designed specifically for reporting purposes and updated nightly.

Examples of reporting applications available within the toolbox are:
MARS PROJECT BUDGET REPORT - This reporting tool allows the user to query single projects or groups of projects and reports information such as remaining available balance, expenditures to date etc.

DETAILED EXPENDITURE REPORT - Users can see a spreadsheet view of individual project charges including pending encumbrances.

ACTIVE SIX YEAR PLAN PROJECTS - Users can select from a list of values, county maps that illustrate project location. The user can then select specific project captions that return current select information such as scheduling and construction status. All projects that have been awarded to contract have a live link to the KYTC TRANSPRT system to provide real-time status information.

ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS - This report returns information on all active construction project by county. This information is provided thru TRANSPRT.

TC-10 VIEWER - This application allows users to see all authorized funding documents and query for total dollars authorized by FY, County , route etc.

UNSCHEDULED PROJECT INFO - This tool combines all information compiled by the Division of Planning pertaining to projects that have been requested by State, local or other officials for consideration into the Six-Year Highway Plan. This includes engineers estimates, purpose and need, project termini etc..
