President’s Welcome
It
is my privilege to personally welcome you to the 51st annual International
Highway Engineering Exchange Program (IHEEP) conference. The organization has now passed the big 50
and can proudly say that it has been there through the years over the past half
century to support member organizations in the difficult task of keeping pace
with ever-changing advances in technology.
Information sharing is definitely nothing new to this organization as we
can all attest to the fact that opportunities to gather with peers, face to
face, on an annual basis to share successes and lessons learned is a tremendous
benefit to the member agencies. HEEP
group discussions and panel sessions are a wonderful way to gain and share
valuable information.
I
hope that you’ll find this year’s technical program informative and helpful to
you as you make technology decisions going forward. We have a nice blend of engineering and
information technology topics, covering the gambit of the daily challenges that
we all face.
I
hope you will also take some time to explore San Antonio, a city of epic battles, flowing
rivers and a flourishing culture. From
the stones of the Alamo to the meandering paths of the Riverwalk, San Antonio takes you on a
journey through a land as grand as its reputation. Walk the lines drawn for
independence when you visit the Alamo, one of
five Spanish colonial missions. Stroll the cobblestone sidewalks of the River
Walk to uncover an outdoor theatre with flamenco dancers and mariachis, nationally
acclaimed museums, sidewalk cafes and authentic Tex-Mex to worldly
cuisines.
Make
plans now to join us in San Antonio,
Texas, September 27 to October 1,
2009. http://www.dot.state.tx.us/iheep2009/.
